Workshop: Spies in the Universe

Being a good writer doesn't start with your words. Being a good writer starts with your eyes and ears and nose and fingers. So in this workshop we learn how to be spies in the universe, paying close attention to the world around us, finding astonishment in ordinary things, and using some basic writing tools to "paint" pictures with words.

Date: September 16, 2017
Time: 2:00-3:30 p.m.
Location: Brentwood Library
Ages: 9-12

Fee: $10 per student

Workshop: The Music of Words

Discover how words whistle, whoosh, gallop, sizzle, and splash! This poetry workshop will explore the wonderful noises words make as we play with rhyme, rhythm, alliteration, and onomatopoeia.

Date: October 21, 2017
Time: 2:00-3:30 p.m.
Location: Brentwood Library
Ages: 9-12

Fee: $10 per student

Workshop: Building Character

Reading and writing stories gives us a chance to walk a mile in someone else’s shoes and see through the eyes of people who are very different from us. This workshop for serious story-lovers focuses on developing vivid, memorable characters, looking to classic children's books for examples as the students explore point of view, narrative voice, and character growth.

Date: November 11, 2017
Time: 2:00-3:30 p.m.
Location: Brentwood Library
Ages: 9-12

Fee: $10 per student
