Let your imaginations loose and be a family of crazy inventors this week! No actual hammers, wires, or test tubes necessary. These inventions are entirely imaginary.
1. With the help of some Googling, print out 20-30 pictures of ordinary objects. Suggestions: candle, sneakers, trash can, umbrella, goggles, cotton balls, soda can, soccer ball, duct tape, chocolate bar, rubber bands, Elmer's glue, bicycle, key, hats, feather duster, light bulb, cactus, garden hose, magnifying glass, carrots, rake, rocks, car tire, safety pins, milk jug, ruler, kite, frying pan, blankets, scissors, medieval helmet, binoculars, mason jar, sunglasses, flashlight, trampoline, pencils, rope, chewing gum, alarm clock . . . you get the idea.
2. Shuffle the pictures and spread them out FACE DOWN in the middle of the table.
3. Have each person randomly choose TWO pictures without looking.
4. DRAW an invention that somehow incorporates those two objects. Everything else about the invention can be made up. For example, a rocket ship shaped like a cactus with a garden hose lasso to catch stray asteroids before they hit earth.
5. WRITE an advertisement to convince people to buy your invention.
My invention is called:
My invention is made of:
My invention can do this:
My invention will help the world because:
5. Repeat the process to make as many inventions as you want, making it harder each time by choosing THREE pictures of objects to incorporate into a single invention, then FOUR, then FIVE, and so on. How creative can you be?
