Are you reading aloud as a family? This week, as you're reading, each person should choose one of the minor characters in the book (not the main character), or even an animal or an important object in the book (like Harold's crayon in Harold and the Purple Crayon) and pay careful attention to that character or animal or object throughout the book.
After the book is finished, give everyone these instructions:
Pretend you are that character/animal/object you chose. What did you experience during the story? How did you feel when those events happened? What did you do? How do you wish the story had gone differently, perhaps? What do you wish readers knew about what really happened? You can use your imagination even beyond what the book says! Rewrite the story (or one of the important scenes from the story) from your character’s point of view. "I remember it this way . . ."
Let everyone read what they wrote out loud. How is the story different depending on one's perspective?
